DESCRIPTION: In recent years high-density DNA microarrays or biochips and next (or second generation) sequencing technologies have revolutionized biomedical research. The utility of microarray technology is that it permits highly parallel gene expression profiling or comparative genome analysis, providing snapshots of the transcriptome or genome in both healthy and disease states. Currently ultra-high-throughput DNA sequencing is transitioning from development to widespread use. Incorporation of next generation sequencing technologies into biomedical research programs is a key objective at many academic institutes. Next Gen sequencing technologies reduce the costs of DNA sequencing by several orders of magnitude, and in essence facilitate the establishment of a genome-sequencing center in every laboratory. We seek a motivated and organized individual to participate in the BIOGEM microarray core facility http://microarrays.ucsd.edu . In this key role you will run hybridization experiments with DNA microarrays and sequencing experiments using the Illumina 1G Analyzer. Expertise is required in commercial microarray platforms - for example Illumina or Affymetrix. You will be responsible for array based genotyping, expression and epigenetics experiments, including array processing and target hybridization, analysis of hybridization data, and organization/storage of RNA/DNA microarray samples and data. Familiarity with array platforms including expression, chIP/chip, snp arrays is required. Management and leadership duties will include directing maintaining lab stocks and clone collections and supervising undergraduate lab helpers. You will provide consultation to investigators on RNA quality issues for microarray experimentation
